Red Leaves
Red Leaves

Oil on Canvas

20" x 20"

A foreign scene from Japan. Aside from the bright red foliage this might just be a Scottish woodland scene with some Silver Birches. The bright red leaves are typical in Japan around Autumn. This particular scene was taken close to the Silver Temple in Kyoto, on the 'philosopher's trail', and is part of the stunning manicured gardens that surround the temple.

The Big Strand
The Big Strand

Oil on Canvas

20" x 20"

The strand is an epic stretch of beach on Islay, on the West Coast of Scotland. It is not unusual to be the only person on the 7 mile stretch - the weather was closing in when we visited, but there was still enough sun to illuminate the sands in the mid ground. This was a challenging piece, to create the right impression of scale and perspective and the sense of shallow waters breaking over the sands.
